Footwear designer Brian Atwood is adding yet another category to design repertoire as he makes a foray into handbag design.  Launching in this spring is the Brian Atwood handbag line, featuring a four piece clutch and minuadiere collection to be sold in limited quantities on Gilt.com, ranging in prices from $1,050 to $1,850.

“I have always loved designing handbags, and we were getting so many requests for them,” Atwood said of his decision to expand into the category. “It seemed like the right time to start with chic clutches then eventually expand on that.”

The high price point means Brian did not skimp on the use of luxe materials for his handbag collection, which is sure be a hit among his celebrity fans like Eva Longoria.

“I loved playing with color and mixing colors and textures on different shapes,” Atwood said.  The “Carla” clutch with zipper-framing detail as one of his favorite looks. “It comes in everything from suede to butter-soft crocodile skin,” he said.

Atwood also plans on creating a handbang collection for his lower priced B Brian Atwood collection; as well as plans to branch into men’s footwear with a well edited collection for his namesake brand.
