Naeem Khan Spring 2012

Designer Naeem Khan says Edith Head and Ava Gardner were the muses for his spring 2012 collection, which he showed on the last day of New York Fashion Week.  Always a showstopper, the collection consisted of red carpet hits starlets and their stylists will be clamoring for come awards season.

Khan’s collection summarized most of the trends seen on the runway with prints, neon, orange and pinks, decadent textures and statement accessories.  The grandeur of his gowns is the minute detailing paid to each.  For instance, a caftan is embelished with silver hand-sewn beads; a yellow knee length dress and a long  gown get glitzed with scratched beading detail to imitate crackled ice. A dress isn’t just a dress to Naeem.  His intricate handwork is also what gives his collection sophistication, allure and glamour.

You could see a modern day Ava Gardner wearing the a yellow and silver v-neck gown fitted through the hip and an elegant bell skirt; Leighton Meester’s character Blair could don a short pink dress with detailed floral and stud motifs; Blake Lively could wear the sexy red dress with cutout sides on the red carpet or the one shoulder floral dress with a slit up the thigh to show off her gazelle gams; Taraji P. Henson or Zoe Saldana would benefit from the deep v-neck sequin frocks sent down the runway.

With the awards season quickly approaching, we’re bound to see multiple pieces from Naeem’s spring collection on the red carpet.  We cannot discount the high society ladies who are also big fans of his collections.  We’re bound to see them also wearing some of these dresses for the big galas.
